We detect intoxication usage through 2 parts: Facial analysis & Touch spectroscopy
This sensor allows us to detect if teen's BAC is above the 0.08% legal limit when they touch the sensor
The sensor sends a light into the blood stream, and depending on the amount of ethanol, a certain wavelength of light will be absorbed. When reflected back, the sensor is able to tell if the BAC is above the 0.08%, based on the difference
We use a camera to analyze the user's face to detect for signs of intoxication like red eyes, lack of eye focus, and more
The camera also allows us to passively moniter the teen throughout the drive and make sure we're detecting the correct person.
When we detect that a child is intoxicated, we directly access the car's CAN bus to stop the engine.
The CAN bus is the main communication system in the car and is used to control the engine, transmission, brakes, and more.
As soon as we detect intoxication, the child's parents are notified through the SoberSense app.
The app allows the gaurdians to understand why their child was detected, and over ride the system if needed.
